
Psoriasis
During today’s lecture, we covered several common Inflammatory skin disorders, including: Psoriasis, Atopic Dermatitis, Seborrheic Dermatitis, Pityriasis Rosea and Lichen Planus.
This daily doodle highlights the key pathologic features of Psoriasis, which include:
– Elongated rete ridges (epidermal hyperplasia)
– Hyperkeratosis and parakeratosis
– Neutrophils in the epidermis
– Thinning of the portions of the epidermis directly overlying the dermal papillae, with dilated vessels close to the epidermis
Psoriasis is a chronic immunologic disease of the skin characterized by profound cutaneous inflammation and epidermal hyperproliferation. Clinical features of Psoriasis includes scaling with Auspitz’ sign (punctate bleeding when the scales are removed). There are several variant forms of Psoriasis and the extent of the lesions can include small patches to the entire body.
